Plenty for everyone......for children see lower down the page

Pool and view If you get bored of relaxing in the peaceful surroundings at Maison Arc-en-ciel and want to do more than just swim or sit by the pool and look at beautiful countryside then...
St Michel de Montaigne is only 2kms
Hire a bicycle from us and explore the quiet lanes that wind their way through the vineyards and forests of this area. You do not have to be 'Tour de France' fit! It is cycling for softies mostly!

Or you could just walk the lanes and forests, Visit St Michel de Montaigne' home, or go wine tasting.

If you do not have your own car here talk to us about hiring one, get out and about to visit many of the local Bastille towns in the location. The beautiful medieval towns of St Emilion and St Foy le Grand are only 20 minutes away, both have excellent restaurants and bars. At St Foy we can personally recommend La Vieille Auberge for top quality French food from the region at local prices. For visiting Bordeaux itself we recommend taking the train from our local stations, we can provide you with timetables. Bordeaux has beautiful boulevards and excellent shopping.
There are too many Chateaux and vineyards in the area to name them all, but most are open to the public for wine tasting and purchase, information is available please ask us. We have our own favourite local vineyard, where you can visit the operation and taste the award winning wine.

Wine tasting at Chateau Tour Montbrun

Chateaux St.Michel de Montaigne is walking distance from us and is a preserved XIV house where the famous philosopher of that name wrote many of his works. It is also possible to buy their Chateaux bottled wine there, but it is not compulsory. Montcaret itself has a Gallo-Roman museum where they have uncovered some wonderful mosaics in the local church grounds of a Roman villa formally on the site.

St Emillion

The Dordogne river is only 15 minutes from us where there are all sorts of possibilities - including canoeing, rafting, boat trips and river swimming.

There are also the beautiful cliff dwellings of La Roque just south of us, where house were built into the side of the cliffs that border the river. Some of the house are still lived in today.

The nearest golf course is 10 minutes from St Foy le Grand, and there are several others near Bergerac too.

Further afield is Arcachon and the famous Dune de Pilat well worth a day trip visit for a day at the exclusive beach resort. On route to there is Le Teich a wonderful bird sanctuary just south of Bordeaux. We have abundant birdlife too at Maison Arc-en-ciel. See our new Birdwatching page.
